Turf has been laid at new softball complex
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The grass is looking greener for the Marshall University softball team.
Or it's looking new, anyway.
Turf has been laid at the new softball complex, which has been under construction since last year.
University officials say the field is on pace to be completed on time, which is good, since the Thundering Herd will play their first game at the new park March 15.
The field is being built along the 2200 block of 3rd Avenue. A new softball park is just one of a host of construction projects under way or planned at the university.
Construction is continuing to move on two new residence halls and a recreation facility, along with an engineering building. Plans are also in the works for a new building to house the Marshall Foundation and Alumni Association.
The university launched a new fundraising campaign last year to help speed construction. "The Bridge" campaign has raised more than $8 million.
